I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.Van Gogh

I work in watercolor and fused glass, often letting one inspire the other. I may begin with a clear idea, but the materials have a way of taking me somewhere unexpected. That is part of what keeps me creating.

Three pieces that explain most of what I'm after.

Glass Weaving

Chasing color and light.

Glass lets color behave differently. It shifts with the light, overlaps, softens and changes depending on where you stand. I am always looking for that moment when the glass begins to feel more like a painting.

The kiln gets the last word.

Three firings and thirty hours of cooling, and every one of them changes something. A color deepens, an edge softens, a bubble surfaces where I did not plan one. I have stopped fighting it. The best pieces are the ones where I give the kiln room to answer back.

Oftentimes a painting keeps going.

An idea may begin in watercolor and find its way into glass later. The image changes along the way, but the color, movement and feeling that started it are still there.
